Virtual courts, Lok Adalat, payment windows — our comprehensive guide covers everything.
Lok Adalat is a statutory dispute-resolution forum under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. For compoundable traffic offences, a Lok Adalat bench can offer a settlement lower than the original challan amount — typically 30–50% less. Once you agree and pay, the matter is closed with no criminal record. Read our detailed guide →
Virtual courts are online judicial platforms that adjudicate petty traffic offences without requiring physical appearance. You receive an SMS or email notice, log in to the virtual court portal, plead guilty and pay, or contest. Currently active in Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and several other states.
Unresolved challans may be transferred to a virtual court or Lok Adalat. Continued non-payment can result in RC suspension, appearance warrants, or transfer to a regular criminal court under Section 177A MV Act. Address challans early — Lok Adalat options may lapse.
Yes. If a Lok Adalat settlement amount is offered and you agree, you can pay online through the eChallan portal or the Lok Adalat payment link. You will receive a receipt and the case will show as disposed. Keep the receipt — your insurance renewal may require a clean challan record.
This means the matter has moved to the virtual court or magistrate court stage. You should appear as required or respond through the virtual court portal. Ignoring at this stage can result in an ex-parte conviction or bench warrant. Reach out if you need assistance with a court-stage challan matter.
Paying clears your challan record on the Parivahan system. Some insurers do check eChallan records at renewal. An unpaid challan for a serious offence (drunk driving, no insurance) can affect the RC fitness certificate at the time of renewal and may affect insurance claim processing.
